Polar scientists herald importance of satellite observations

The planets in our small solar system are no longer the only ones on our map of the universe. For some years now, hundreds of exoplanets have been found. Where are they? Who spots them day after day, and how? What is the motivation behind this frantic search? Is life possible on other planets?

Scientists have concluded that intelligent life may exist on planets orbiting some of the hundreds of billions of stars in our galaxy, the Milky Way. These scientists base their conclusion on research in such fields as astronomy, biology, planetary science, and paleontology.Over the past few years this amazing quest has met with great enthusiasm, including among the general public. Who will be the first person to find a planet resembling our Earth, where there might be life forms similar to our own?

A 52-minute documentary, named 'Millions of Earths' will give us some insight into the exciting research by a group of scientists that are somewhat different from the average: exoplanet hunters who will share with us their dreams and their discoveries in their quest to find planets comparable to Planet Earth. The aim of this film is to follow them closely in their thrilling research, relying on human qualities in order to share their dreams and discoveries.

The film will focus on current research of planets similar to the Earth. The community of scientists specialising in extra-solar planets is ruled by solidarity, which implies sharing all discoveries made. ... Exoplanet Hunters

Cosmic Collision

Our home galaxy the Milky Way and Andromeda galaxy are on a collision course! The Andromeda is the most distant object one can see with naked eye. Code named M31 or Messier 31, Andromeda is a giant spiral galaxy of about 300 billion stars. This galaxy is about twice as big as the Milky Way and about 2.5 million light years away from us. The galaxy is moving towards to our own Milky Way at a speed about 500,000 km/hour. Scientists believe ... Full Text
